Clement Greiner and Marcus Liebich have developed a novel application for AIR: adding highly detailed textures to models for manufacturing. Using Brian Perry’s RhinoMan plugin for Rhino they applied displacement shaders to a base model to add patterns. Then they rendered the model with AIR and saved the displaced mesh to a file using AIR’s new geometry export capability. The resulting detailed mesh file was imported back into Rhino and exported to an STL file for manufacture. Find out more on this site or read a sketch of their method.
