Pix Ray Studio recreated a crowded St Peter’s square for the documentary Zero Hour using a Houdini-driven pipeline and rendering with AIR.  This shot contains 17,000 animated characters, each made of 15,000 polygons.  The crowd as a whole uses 150 2k texture maps.  Average rendering time for an HD frame was around 23 minutes.
